In his introduction of this book, here is some description about himself:

『My own experiences are included. I served as radioman for General Maxwell D. Taylor, the division commander, and parachuted from his plan. Throughout the war I kept a daily log of my acti*** on onion-skin paper from the backs of Signal Corps message books. Larer, as we returned to the rear areas for rest, I transcribed my notes into the regular diary which had been left behind. My fiacee, now my wife, saved all my letters from the battle areas.』
