好的教学有很多形式，好的老师交给我们的知识会淡忘，但对好的老师本身却会长久铭记。

廉价的模仿是吸引不了学生的。

「当教师失去心灵」

困扰在于没能帮助学生学习他们想要了解和需要了解的东西，而是：向学生显示我有多聪明，向他们显示我知识有多渊博，向他们显示我备课有多认真。我就是在进行演出，其真实目标不是帮助他们学习，而是以此使他们对我有一个好的评价。

「启发、引领我们心灵的导师」

除非教师把教学与学生生命内部的鲜活内核联系起来，与学生内心世界的导师联系起来，否则永远不会发生教学。

「剖析恐惧」

我们很少考虑到学生在教室里可能会死气沉沉，因为我们用一种不当他们是活生生的人的方法来教他们。

“有问题背景”的学生——在课堂上看上去沉默和表面上忧郁的学生，他们的大脑不是死的：他们充满了恐惧。沉默不是由于天生愚蠢或平庸，而是出于一种想保护他们自己生存的愿望

「教师内心的恐惧」

默许学生不发表意见，似乎是想召唤通常保持沉默的学生发表意见：当我们被赋予沉默的自由时，我们更可能选择参与。

尊重我的学生们心灵的孤独也意味着，当我听他们说话时，我得清楚我的问题把他们引进主题有多深的程度。有一些地方是人的心灵不想去的—至少是不想在众目睽睽之下。
