本书选用元代有名书法家赵孟頫（1254—1322）晚年代表作《妙严寺记》（763个字）与《胆巴碑》（903个字），前者未署年月，从赵孟頫落款所署官职“中顺大夫扬州路泰州尹兼劝农事”，大概可以推断为至大二年（1309）7月至第二年9月间，时年56—57岁；后者写于延祐三年（1316），时年赵孟頫63岁。此二帖风格略有差异，但均为赵字典型风格，端庄秀美，典雅醇和，庄严大气，圆劲流丽，深得“二王”之风，为后世学书典范。
